Skalnaté pleso is situated at an altitude of about 1 751 m and has an area of about 1.23 ha and a depth of about 2 m. There is an observatory, a cableway station and a restaurant at the lake. It is a popular destination for tourists who come here on foot from Hrebienok or by cable car from Tatranská Lomnica. Nearby there is also a children's area and a viewing platform with views of Lomnicky Peak.
